Being kind to each other

EQUALS doesn't tolerate hate, abuse or harassment.

EQUALS doesn't tolerate hate, abuse or harassment. This includes:

  • Insults, or strong and vulgar language, aimed at someone in the conversation

  • Slurs or dehumanising language directed at someone because of their race, ethnicity, religion, gender, sexual orientation or identity

  • Saying that a group of people are inferior, worthless or less than human, or using an identity term as a general insult

  • Mocking or degrading someone's body, weight or appearance

  • Using something someone has told you against them — a phobia, an illness, a bereavement, a mental health condition

Quoting a slur in order to call it out isn't this, and neither is an identity term used by someone in that group about themselves. Crude humour between adults who are both joining in is fine.

Rooms only work when people want to be in them. If you wouldn't say it to someone at a show, don't say it here.
